Bridal Party

Bridal Party Members – Their Responsibilities and Dress Code

One of the things you will have to do is choose your bridal party when you are planning the wedding. The members of this group are normally family members and close friends of both the bride and the groom. They will include but are not limited to the following.

The maid of honor will accompany you to the alter and take care of the train of your wedding gown if it has one as well as the veil and hold the bride’s bouquet when needed. She will stand to the left of the bride. The maid of honor normally is allowed to wear a dress that is somewhat different than the ones worn by the bridesmaids. The style and color will be varied but not so much so that it is out of place.

The flower girl walks behind the bride and strews flower petals as she walks down the aisle. The dress worn by her should be something appropriate for the wedding, depending upon whether it is formal or casual. Often the flower girl will wear a color or style that is similar to the bridesmaid’s dresses.

The ring bearer will stand in the front with the groom, holding the wedding ring for the bride on a small pillow until the appropriate moment. His attire should be along the same lines as the groom’s. A suit for the formal wedding and the color will depend upon the bride’s preference.

The bridesmaids will stand to the left of the maid of honor. Their dresses should be of the same style and color. The jewelry they wear should be small and inconspicuous and the shoes can vary depending on the height of the person wearing them. However, they should be the same color. They will typically wear corsages and they should all be the same color and type.

The groomsmen will stand to the right of the best man. Their attire will be of the same style and color as the groom. The formal or casual dress of the groom will govern what is worn by the groomsmen. Often they will wear boutonnières, which are typically white.

The ushers for the wedding will wear formal attire similar to that being worn by the groomsmen. They are responsible for seating the guests and directing them to the restrooms if needed. The ushers will remain at the back of the room while the wedding is in progress in case there are late arrivals. Then they may seat them on the proper side of the room.

All members of the wedding party should attend the wedding rehearsal so they will know what is expected of them when the time comes. The rehearsal dinner can be attended by all of the bridal party members. However, if it is going to be late, the ring bearer and flower girl may opt for rest instead.

Let’s not forget a very important part the groomsmen and ushers. They are usually the ones who will take care of decorating the car used for the bride and groom’s escape. Putting the ‘Just Married’ logo on the window and adding any decorations that are being used such as streamers will be a part of their contribution to the happy couple.
