Guide to Buying Your Wedding Dress

You are getting married and the search for a wedding dress is on! Where do you go to find the best dress – the one that will make you look like a princess? There are several options that you will want to consider. Today, the number of places to go for your wedding dress is far greater than at anytime in the past.

Tips to Help You Decide Where to Buy Your Wedding Dress

You could look on the Internet. This is a portal that is full of ideas for brides. There are numerous search engines to find websites that design wedding dresses. A plus to this is you can save the searches if you find one you like so you can go back for a second look.

If there is a particular style of wedding gown you find online that catches your eye, you may want to print it out. Take it with you to a bridal shop and see if they have one that is very similar. Try it on so you will see if the style suits you. The ones that you see online and even on models will look differently on you than it does on them.

The choice of shopping online is the sheer number of dresses that are available. There are many more than you will find at your local bridal shop and the styles will be just as varied. However, if you choose to buy one online you will not have the option of trying it on first. So finding one that is close to the one you want and trying it on will give you the best idea of what it will look like on you.

New Vs. Second Hand Gowns

If you have decided that your budget will not permit the purchase of a new wedding gown, there are options for second hand gowns. There are sites online that specialize in used gowns as well. The good thing about purchasing a used one is that you will probably get a better bargain. A wedding gown that originally was quite expensive can be purchased at a bargain price.

You may get lucky and find a designer gown that was way out of your price range when it was new and is quite affordable now. A wedding gown is typically only worn once for a few hours so it cannot be considered the same thing as buying other used items.

Purchasing Your Wedding Gown at a Bridal Shop

Going to a bridal shop for your wedding gown is another option. This needs to be done enough in advance if you are planning to have one made to your specifications. They are normally ordered from 3 to 6 months in advance of the time they are needed.

Trying on wedding gowns is fun but you need to check certain things if this is going to be your wedding dress. Check the length, the fit and the material. If you are going to need alterations which you most likely will, make sure there is a seamstress available to do this. A dress is not going to fit your perfectly unless it was made specifically for you.

Buying Discount or Wholesale – Is This Safe?

Another thing you may want to keep in mind is that bridal shops often have online stores. The dresses they sell are often discount wedding gowns. This simply means the price has been discounted to help sell the gown. This is another option if your budget is already stretched to the limit.

Still another option when purchasing your wedding gown is buying one wholesale. There are several places online that sell these wedding gowns. If you do a search you will find page after page of wholesale wedding gowns for sale. The downfall to purchasing a wedding dress in this manner is where the dress came from. There are typically gowns advertised from the U.S., China, Singapore and Hong Kong.

This may not be the best means of buying the dress you are planning on wearing to your wedding. There may be issues with colors, the quality of the fabric, the construction of the gown, the size may be smaller than a similar gown made in the U.S. and the customizing may cause problems.

If you buy a gown that is too small, you are stuck. If it is too big, it can be altered but it is impossible to make a smaller gown larger. Sometimes overseas companies can be hard to deal with as well. You may not understand their language if the need arises for calling them or you may not be able to get in touch with them at all.

The best way to ensure the wedding gown you purchase will fit is the right color and the material you want is to use a method that you feel comfortable with and check to make sure the company is legitimate.
